Welcome to the 2015-2016 academic year! Our Counseling Service is here to help you to gain an insight into any difficulties you may be experiencing. The service offers free and confidential support, but is not an emergency service.
What kind of problems can be helped through counseling?
During your university career there may be times when you need a little extra support: for example when you first arrive at the university and have to adjust to a new environment as well as make new friends and cope with your studies; or during periods of academic pressure, or maybe when you are dealing with unexpected life events that impact on your emotional wellbeing. At these times it can be helpful to have additional support to that offered by your friends and family.
What happens in the counseling?
Counseling is a process which offers the opportunity to explore those issues that are causing you concern or distress. It provides you with the time and space to talk about these issues in a confidential setting with a professionally qualified person. The counselor will not tell you what to do, but instead will assist you to think about your difficulties in a non-judgmental manner in order to help you find the best way to deal with them.
